Abu Hanifa

Abu Hanifa (äbOO' hänē'fä) [key], 699767, Muslim jurist. He founded the Hanafite system of Islamic jurisprudence, which gives the judge considerable discretion when the Qur'an and the Sunna (traditions) are inapplicable (see Islam).
