Froben, Johannes

Froben, Johannes (yōhä'nus frō'bun) [key], 14601527, German printer. He established himself at Basel and there in 1516 printed the Greek New Testament, edited and translated into Latin by Erasmus. Erasmus edited many publications of Froben, contributing to the fame of Froben's press for printing scholarly texts. Froben also employed the then unknown Hans Holbein as designer.
