Arnold O. Beckman

Apparatus for testing acidity—Beckman founded Beckman Instruments, Inc. in 1935 with the development of a pH meter for measuring acidity and alkalinity. He also developed the helical potentiometer, a precision electronic component, and the quartz spectrophotometer, an instrument which pioneered automatic chemical analysis. (1987)
